Maria Sabaté Dalmau

Maria Sabaté Dalmau is English Lecturer at the University of Lleida. She received her PhD in 2010 and her MA in Linguistic Anthropology in 2007 at the University of Toronto, and has been a pre-doctoral visiting scholar at the University of Southampton and an Erasmus teaching staff at the Institute of Multilingualism in Fribourg. She is a member of the editorial board of Treballs de Sociolingüística Catalana and a member of the commissions of the international Asociación de Estudios sobre Discurso y Sociedad. She is reviewer of Journal of Sociolinguistics, Multilingua, and International Journal of Multilingualism, among others. She has been part of thesis Tribunals for the MA in Applied Languages (UdL), the MA in Teaching in Secondary Schools, Vocational Training and Language Centres (UAB), the MA in Advanced English Studies (UAB) and the PhD in Information and Knowledge Society (UOC). Her research interests include multilingual practices and ideologies and transnational identity negotiations among mobile/migrant populations in contemporary societies and institutions, with an emphasis on how the new economy and neoliberal regimes interplay with social inequality among these social agents, from a critical sociolinguistics ethnographic perspective. Her manuscript is entitled Migrant Communication Enterprises: Regimentation and Resistance (Bristol: Multilingual Matters, 2014).
